Back for its eighth edition, the Jersey Summer Exhibition continues to be the ultimate celebration of artistic inspiration and cultural vibrancy on the island. This exhibition has quickly become a highlight of the Jersey art scene, attracting both locals and visitors with its dynamic showcase of talent. The exhibition features a diverse array of works including ceramics, prints, photography, paintings, and sculptures, attracting collectors and art enthusiasts alike. Modelled after the renowned Royal Academy event in London, the Jersey Summer Exhibition stands out for its rigorous selection process. A panel of professional artists and critics carefully selects the exhibits, ensuring a dynamic and high-quality group selling exhibition. This opportunity not only provides artists with a prestigious platform but also helps to elevate their careers, whether they are emerging talents or professional artists.
This year’s selection panel boasts a remarkable line-up: Tom Hammick, painter and printmaker whose work is held in various public and private collections worldwide, including The British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, Deutsche Bank, British Arts Council and The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia; Ben Johnson, painter recognized for his practice based on architectural space and intricated cityscapes whose work is included in permanent collections worldwide, including the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Centre Georges Pompidou, the Museum of Modern Art, New York; and Sue Timney, iconic designer best-known for her distinctive use of black and white graphic imagery and currently President of the British Institute of Interior Design.

Tom Hammick, Ben Johnson and Sue TimneyTOM HAMMICK
Tom Hammick's work probes the human condition in pulsating color, pushing the materiality of each medium into a contemplative narrative. There is an undeniable oscillation between the quietude of the subject matter-a lone figure on the beach, three figures tending a garden-and the artist's distinctly exuberant palette. We as viewers are left with an electrified stillness.Moving in and out of the domestic sphere, Hammick captures humans and their domiciles with expressive tenderness. "I suppose as a painter I'm interested in the poetic connection with home, and things being terrestrial (versus extraterrestrial)," the artist says. He continues, "You know, I hope [the paintings are] about what it's like to be human… Whether it's a woman going out to her garden, or two women trying to build shelter, or a man, I suppose me, outside sort of a metaphor of my house or flat or studio, and the color of the night. All these figures kind of going around their daily life, nightly life, almost unaware of, or definitely unaware of, us watching them."
Tom Hammick is an artist living and working in London and East Sussex in the UK. He studied art history at the University of Manchester and later Fine Painting at Camberwell College of Art and NSCAD, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Canada. He has an MA in Printmaking, also from Camberwell, and until recently taught at Fine Art Painting and Printmaking for many years at The University of Brighton. Hammick is the proud father of three mostly grown children as well as a lover of music, theater, film, opera and poetry, all of which informs his work in a profound and tangible way. His work is held in various public and private collections worldwide, including The British Museum, London; Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Yale Centre for British Art, New Haven, CT; Deutsche Bank; De Beers; ING Barings; Arthur Anderson; British Arts Council and The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.
BEN JOHNSON
Ben Johnson was born in Llandudno, Wales. He studied at the Royal College of Art and lives and works in London.He is best known for his paintings based on architectural spaces and his large-scale cityscape paintings, which include panoramas of Hong Kong, Zürich, Jerusalem, Liverpool and finally London which was completed as part of a residency at the National Gallery, London, in 2010.Johnson has exhibited widely in galleries and museums across the world, including the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London; the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool; the Art Institute of Chicago; Kunsthalle Tübingen; and the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid. A retrospective of his paintings was exhibited at the Southampton City Museum and Art Gallery in 2015.He has undertaken commissions for the Royal Institute of British Architects, the British Museum and National Museums Liverpool as well as for IBM, HSBC, JP Morgan, British Steel, Hong Kong Telecommunications amongst others.His work is included in the permanent collections worldwide, including the Victoria & Albert Museum, London; the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Regional Services Museum, Hong Kong; and the Government Art Collection.
SUE TIMNEY
Sue Timney has worked in Britain, Europe and Japan for over thirty years creating interior projects celebrating her own brand of exotic classicism under the TIMNEY FOWLER and SUE_TIMNEY banners. The work ranges from commercial and residential interior architecture to product design for interiors and fashion. She was made a Visiting Professor and Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Art in 2007, holds the Textile Institute’s Design Medal and nominated for the Prince Philip Designer's Prize by the Royal College of Art. From 2012 - 2014 Sue was President of the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID) and is she is currently a director of BIID. She was presented with the Merit Award from the Institute in 2022 for excellence in interior design practice; a contribution to the development of the Institute and a commitment to the wider field of design education.In 2002 alongside the TIMNEY FOWLER brand - the SUE_TIMNEY design practice was set up to work on specialist interior and product projects. A retrospective of Timney’s work was held in 2010 at The Fashion and Textile Museum in London together with the launch of her book Making Marks - a design biography. The House of Fraser launched the TIMNEY brand for Home and Fashion in 2011 and her work was exhibited in the Postmodernism: Style & Subversion 1970-1990 exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum. Sue's designs in 2012 were exhibited in the V&A’s 'British Design 1948-2012: Innovation in the Modern Age' and '175 years at the Royal College of Art’. Her work was also exhibited in the powerful 'Club to Catwalk: London Fashion in the Eighties' show at the V&A Museum in 2013.The 100th programme of Grand Designs - The Water Tower in Kennington - was a huge restoration project designed in collaboration with the owners by the SUE_TIMNEY practice and nominated for a BAFTA in 2013. Sue is also a consultant and presenter for Television specialising in interior design and textiles. SUE_TIMNEY’s recent and current clients include The World Wildlife Fund, World Animal Protection, Sir Sam Mendes, Paul McCartney, The Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, The Churches Conservation Trust, Marks and Spencer, British Red Cross and the Sir John Soane’s Museum.2019 saw the international relaunch of Timney’s celebrated brand, the award winning interior fabric and wallpaper company - TIMNEY FOWLER.In 2021, Sue Timney was elected Chair of the Chelsea Arts Club and re-elected in 2022. She was elected Chair of Trevelyan Arts Trust and received the Merit Award from the British Institute of Interior Design for excellence in interior design practice, contribution to the development of the Institute and commitment to the broader field of design education in 2022.
