Renowned local artist Nicholas Romeril will open his biggest exhibition in Jersey since 2008. The showcase, which will launch in November, will feature over 40 works on canvas, slate and stainless steel.
The exhibition will be held at CCA Galleries International from 10th November and run for two weeks thanks to the sponsorship of Voisin law. The local firm will enjoy a private reception and preview of the exhibition to share with their esteemed clients.
As an internationally acclaimed artist, Nicholas Romeril has been exhibiting extensively in recent years in locations such as Miami, London, Switzerland and California. He now returns to his home to showcase his latest and most ambitious works titled ‘Free to Jump’.
The signature piece of the exhibition ‘Roller’ is an extra-large oil on linen at 150cm by 180cm. The works explore a number of subjects including seascapes, underwater, dunes, boulders and cliffs. Influence stems from natural elements, light and shade, and rough seas. A number of pieces ingeniously use optical illusion and 3D to convey their theme. One set of paintings focus on hidden places on Jersey’s north coast that can only be reached via kayak. Nicholas has also been working with local art fabricator Neil McKenzie to create a set of stainless steel sculptures inspired by splashes and his son Danny Romeril on his ‘fish wave’ installation. It’s been a family affair as Nicholas’s other son, William Romeril, has also written beautiful poems to accompany the pieces.
Nicholas Romeril, Artist and Sculptor, says:
‘It’s incredibly exciting to be able to share my largest exhibition in eight years in Jersey. It’s a pivotal collection for me of over 40 pieces of work. The new underwater collection is all about breaking small rules and is sensation driven rather than realism. The pieces set in the sand dunes are particularly reflective representing memories, footprints in the sand and the elements that wash them away. Each room in the Gallery will represent a different theme and feel and showcase all the different aspects to my current practice. I am very grateful to Voisin for their sponsorship, CCA Galleries International, and my sons William and Danny Romeril’.
Georgina Jeffries, Head of Marketing, Voisin, says:
‘As a firm we have long been supporters of Nicholas Romeril’s work having purchased our first piece of his in 2006. We are so pleased to now be able to support him in such an important exhibition and the previews of the pieces we have seen are absolutely phenomenal. It’s important for us as a local business to support the arts and make them accessible to our entire community. We hope people enjoy the exhibition and come out to support Nicholas during the two week showcase’.
Elizabeth Purgal, Gallery Manager, CCA Galleries International, says:
‘We are delighted to host this exciting exhibition for Nicholas Romeril. This show is particularly special and it will sit well alongside the best UK contemporary artists including Sir Peter Blake and Damien Hirst. We anticipate that it will be very popular considering Nick’s growing fan base’.
