CCA GALLERIES INTERNATIONAL is delighted to showcase a new body of photographic work by RICHARD CLOSE.

 

This exhibition pushes the boundaries of photography with layered images leaving space for light to filter through each level, producing an interesting 3D effect. The exhibition is open from Monday 1 - Saturday 13 February. Richard grew up in Kent, later moving to Jersey in 2003. Though he started out working in Information Technology, Richard always had an interest in photography. His attention to the detail of his subject is reflected in his style of photography, inviting the viewer to see through his eyes: ‘to show how the way that the light falls can change the colour, the texture even the shape of what you are looking at’. Richard has exhibited in Jersey and the UK and over the last two years has developed a new body of work; not just showing how light affects the subject but to engage light with the image itself, showing light movement not only on the face of the image but also around and behind each layer. Richard’s process involves taking three images of the same subject, from three slightly different distances. The images are printed on acetate (overhead projector sheets), mounted on separated clear acrylic sheets and bolted together. The end result is a mesmerising 3D effect image with light moving between each layer. Abstract architecture features heavily in Richard’s recent work but for the first time, he has created a self-portrait which also incorporates lighting within the frame itself.
