Art and ‘high culture’ are becoming normalised in almost all major cities and, increasingly in most key financial centres. CCA Galleries International and Ben Shenton are delighted to be hosting this important discussion with International Contemporary Art Advisor and Curator Stephen McCoubrey and former Bailiff and Minister for External Relations, Sir Philip Bailhache.

Stephen McCoubrey has over 20 years of experience navigating the contemporary art world in established and developing markets across the globe. He also has a long history of curating and managing major public exhibitions throughout Europe and Asia, including projects at Art Basel and Tate Modern. Stephen is a regular visitor to Jersey and CCA Galleries International ‘Encouraging a cultural life on the island, through a sophisticated recipe of supporting local makers, showcasing parts of what’s available in London, through more innovative use of the many existing venues, film and arts festivals, pop-ups and corporate events can create an environment that encourages business to bring more and more of their best people and activity to the island, encourage HNW individuals to relocate, and even help update Jersey as a tourist destination suited to 21st century visitors.’
Throughout his public life, Sir Philip Bailhache was well known for his support of the arts and change in island policy: ‘The opportunity to discuss the huge benefits that investment in the arts could bring to Jersey is one not to be missed. The Island is not a cultural desert, but nor is it a pulsating centre for the arts. We will never compete with London or Berlin, but there is no reason why Jersey cannot aspire to emulate the Greek city states of old. They were smaller than Jersey but they made a cultural impact on the world which was disproportionate to their size.’
