On the 5th June CCA Galleries International will open its doors at Royal Court Chambers, 10 Hill Street, St Helier. The new team at CCA International is headed up by Gallery Manager Elizabeth Purgal along with Alexandra Dessain (web sales, design and marketing) and Hannah Campbell (gallery sales). Director of CCA Galleries, Gillian Duke tells us more about the history of its UK counterpart and plans in Jersey for CCA Galleries International.
CCA Galleries:
CCA Galleries has over 40 years experience as one of the world's leading publishers and galleries specializing in original limited edition prints and fine art original works. CCA Galleries was established in 1972 as Christie’s Contemporary Art, a subsidiary of the famous auction house, Christie’s International. Since 1985 it has been an independent company. In the early days, CCA helped to establish original prints as a major art form in their own right and as a way of collecting genuine high quality art at an affordable price. Today CCA continues to promote these ideals and boasts an enviable international reputation. Their aim today, as it was in 1972, is to seek out and publish the best limited edition prints available by famous and established artists and printmakers, as well as young artists in the early stages of their careers.
Since 2010 CCA Galleries has incorporated Coriander Studio; one of Europe's longest established and most prolific print studios that specialize in original silkscreen techniques. CCA prides itself on nurturing long-standing working relationships with its artists, working closely with them to create their silkscreen editions, before going on to publish and offer them to market. These close relationships have also resulted in CCA expanding to show original artworks: paintings, ceramics and sculptures.
CCA also believes in making contemporary British art accessible to the wider community; through exhibitions, the website and the CCA Art Bus, which tours artworks to schools and communities across the UK.
Coriander Studio:
CCA’s original limited silkscreen edition prints are made at Coriander studio. The artists work with a team of printmakers at the studio to bring their vision to fruition. Coriander Studio is one of Europe's longest established and most prolific producers of limited edition prints for publication by artists and publishers worldwide. Founded in 1972 by master printmaker Brad Faine, who still manages Coriander today, the studio specializes in the techniques of silkscreen, digital printing and more recently, lenticular prints. As printers Coriander works with internationally recognized artists to produce exciting and highly collectable editions. The aim of Coriander Studio is to offer high quality original fine art limited edition prints. Each artwork is proofed and editioned under the artist's executive control. In each case the medium used has been determined by the artist, including any handmade or drawn stencils. Coriander studios constantly push the boundaries of printmaking to include collage elements, embossing, gold leaf, diamond dust and 3D techniques which the studio undertakes to ensure that all prints are first generation artworks which are originals in their own right.
