CCA Galleries International in association with British Heart Foundation and Jersey Heart Support Group host a special event on 11th July and Exhibition 12th July to 30th August 2013.

This Summer CCA Galleries International is delighted to announce a special exhibition of artworks created to support the British Heart Foundation’s Mending Broken Hearts Appeal. From 12th July to 30th August the Breath of Life portfolio will be on display; this is a unique collection of silkscreen prints created by leading contemporary artists on the theme of ‘mending broken hearts’. Exhibiting artists include Sir Peter Blake, Maggi Hambling, John Hoyland, Donald Hamilton Fraser, Storm Thorgerson, Bruce McLean, Rob Ryan, Antony Micallef, Duggie Fields, Brad Faine, Gerard Hemsworth, Brendan Neiland, Barbara Rae, Maurice Cockrill, Patrick Hughes and Tom Phillips. All publishers’ profits from sales of the artworks will be donated to the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Director and Trustee of the British Heart Foundation and Chairman of CCA Galleries International, Lance Trevellyan, explains, “each of the artists was asked to create an original artwork based on the theme ‘mending broken hearts’: a universal theme with endless possibilities that sums up the work of the BHF. Each artist’s interpretation is completely unique and the images as a group are as diverse as they are beautiful. This diversity is essential to what we are trying to achieve: to put contemporary art into the mainstream public view and to use its power to help people think. In the end, Breath of Life is about the redemptive power of love, about triumph over adversity, about hope and science combining to conquer heart disease. This positive message encapsulates what the BHF is trying to achieve; to find a way to repair damaged hearts and save millions of lives”.

The Mending Broken Hearts Appeal funds a cutting-edge programme of regenerative medical research dedicated to finding a cure for heart failure. The British Heart Foundation believes it will be able to mend broken hearts within a generation – bringing hope to millions of people worldwide. To launch the exhibition a special event is taking place at CCA Galleries International on the evening of Thursday 11th July. Along with a private view of the artworks, the Jersey Heart Support Group will be announcing their intention to launch a new local appeal to place a defibrillator in every school in Jersey.

Special guests will include Phil Volante, Chairman of the Jersey Heart Support Group (JHSG), and Dr Andrew Mitchell, Consultant Cardiologist at Jersey General Hospital. The event will be hosted by Lance Trevellyan, a Director and Trustee of the BHF and Chairman of CCA Galleries International Jersey.

 

 

Cardiac services in Jersey have been transformed over the last few years thanks to generous donations from the British Heart Foundation, trust funds and individuals. Dr Andrew Mitchell has raised over half a million pounds to fund these essential services. Up until recently the majority of the staff in the cardiology department were funded by charity. The charitable fund is now funding an extra heart doctor to help see patients quickly and ensure that they receive the most appropriate care.

Dr Andrew Mitchell says, "every week in the UK at least 12 young people die from heart conditions that they did not know they had. Unfortunately, Jersey is not spared from this misfortune and we have had several young deaths in recent years. The service Heart for Life was set up in Jersey to help screen for these conditions and has proved to be a great success (www.heartforlife.co.uk). In addition to screening for heart conditions, young deaths can be avoided by early, effective life-support and rapid access to a defibrillator. We would like to see a defibrillator located at every school and sporting location. Not only will this save lives but it will reinforce to our school children, parents and teachers the importance of basic life support. With these interventions, Jersey can become the most heart-safe place to live in the British Isles."
