presents
An Exhibition of Original Prints by Jersey Artist Maurice Boots
 10th - 28th October 2016

An exhibition of previously unseen original prints by the late Maurice Boots. Well known for his work as the States Architect in the early 50s, Maurice began to work in oils, pen and ink, before discovering a passion for etching after studying under Dolf Rieser in the early 80s.His meticulous, abstract prints, many in their original frames are of their time, yet still surprising brave.

Maurice Boots died in 2012. He was an extremely well-liked and respected local figure – he was the Chief Architect or States Architect for the States of Jersey. He was also a painter and a print maker. Although Maurice was passionate about his island, he was also a modernist and keen to forge international links. The prints hung in the first floor gallery were all made in the early 1980s - the majority had never been shown in public. He was ahead of his time and although exhibiting widely in Germany. Jersey and the UK, Maurice did not seek public approval for his abstract work. It is no surprise that this work is now receiving the reverence that it deserves. Most of the APs (artist proofs) were the only edition ever printed, making his etchings even more exciting for his collectors.
